Cycling in France 2000The Loire Valley - Orleans to Tours |
|
We went to France to cycle in the Loire valley with our British friends Andy and Danielle FitzGerald. Steve and Andy have known each other since 1982 when they met in Hong Kong. Andy was working there and Steve had just arrived after travelling through China. Through the years they have met many times in many places. In fact, they were together on a cycling trip from Berlin to Budapest when Andy met Danielle!
We chose the Loire valley because of the beautiful chateaux, plentiful vineyards, and lovely villages. Also because it's flat! We rode 25 to 35 miles per day, which left plenty of time for visiting chateaux, lingering over picnic lunches beside the river, tasting wine, and meeting people. You can learn more about everything we saw in this excellent Eyewitness Guide.
If you like, you can get a quick overview of the cycling portion of our trip. It lists the names and addresses of all the places we stayed.
A word about the Paris photos -- there aren't very many of them. We have been to the City of Light a number of times before and have many lovely photos of all the usual sights. This time, we saved most of our film for the bike trip.
