Between early March and last week, we’ve had workers inside or outside the house almost every day except for the period when all construction was suspended due to COVID-19.
Our first project was to remodel both of our downstairs bathrooms. I can’t show the results because the iPhone is not great at taking photos in small places. You’ll just have to come for a visit and see for yourself!
Our other project was exterior renovation. This is a fancy way of saying that we repaired some dry rot, patched a few flaws in the stucco and repainted. When I say “we”, I mean our World Class painter, Brant.
Our house was designed by Ralph Anderson, a well-known Seattle architect. There are certain color schemes usually associated with his houses. Most have the trim darker than the wall color. Many feature grey-taupe-brown palettes. We spent quite a bit of time with a color consultant and a fair amount of money buying paint samples. We’re really happy with the result. Yes, it seems to “weight” the house, and give it stature. I particularly like the effect of the darker colour on the crown.
Yes, “weight” is the exact word we used. Weren’t initially sure whether we’d like the darker garage and deck doors, but it all worked out.
Steve, so glad to hear about the remodeled lower level. Melanie and I were quite appalled by the bathroom during our last visit and, frankly, had decided we would stay at the local Super 8 on our next visit. Thankfully that won’t be necessary now. Good News!!!
You’re thinking about coming back? Damn, if I’d known that, we’d have never remodeled the baths.

Hello, I think you have now created a very good example of the preservation of an architect’s house. When we finally get an Anti-Corona vaccination, we would like to have a look at it. Hope it will not last too long. We wish you all to stay healthy ,,,, !
