Vertical Meandering

Our place at the Pacific Rendezvous is great, except that the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is down. If you are of a certain age, you will understand why this is less than ideal.

That aside, we had a fun first night at the Tutukaka Fishing Club where we shared a table with three interesting fellows from Whangarei and enjoyed superb fish and chips. Some of the best, actually. I am a F&C expert, so don’t argue.

We decided that today would be a walking day and, leaving the Pacific Rendezvous behind, set out for a 6km ramble that would take us down to sea level, then up to a survey marker at the top of a local hill.

After visiting the beach, we started our climb up the hill you can see the upper part of the trail in the photo, below

Along the way, we came across this interesting tree. The pods are like spikey Japanese lanterns

We were rewarded with a fine view from the top.
